Today is International Day for the Elderly!

Why not give your grandma or grandpa a hug today? Can’t see them in person? Why not give them a call and see how they’re doing?

Ten years ago the United Nations designated October 1 as International Day for the Elderly. There’s an article you can check out about it on the UN’s website. They want people to recognize that the elderly make very important contributions to society and that they shouldn’t be ignored or uncared for. Many people treat the elderly as though they are incapable of doing things and that their “problems” or “issues” outweigh their usefulness to society.

I say take the time to listen to someone older and they may have some very interesting stories to tell you about when they were your age. Who knows? You may even enjoy yourself! 🙂
